Had my first ever parent teacher interviews yesterday! I was really scared but so happy with how they all went. The parents were all very nice and had some great questions which was really great to see. I heard from a lot of the parents that I was their child’s favourite teacher/that they love me and one of my boys who I don’t get a lot from in terms of facial response and I think sometimes he thinks he’s smarter than me, his mother said that he thinks I’m a “very effective teacher” that I’m “different” and that he likes being in my class! SO happy!
I’m exhausted today and wasted a lot of time today in so many ways (4 periods off… not a lot done, but this was echoed across the school I think :)) and in year 10, over half my class was on an excursion so we played English Pac Man, Bang, English Celebrity heads. It’s a lovely class and I get along really well with them so it was nice to chat to them a bit and get to know them even more. They feel comfortable in my class which is so nice and I’m so happy to have them there.

I was getting bored with my regular “morning message” routine, and came across these magnetic spinners. I LOVE these things, and so do my students! There are so many different things you can do with them, so it makes our morning routine a bit more exciting now. They do need to be spun with a gentle hand, and my students had to practice a bit (and they still knock them off now and again), but they got the hang of it. I have been using them almost daily for weeks now, and it’s made a big difference in the level of engagement I’m seeing during our morning meetings.
SOOO getting some of these for character descriptors/cold calling

If my lovely year 7 kiddies don’t know the difference between Primary and Secondary sources by the end of tomorrows double there is something seriously wrong with my teaching.
